Aramid fiber matrix MRC woofer
The center speaker baffle of the XS-160ES is made from Sony's unique Mica Reinforced Cellular (MRC) material. The stiff yet lightweight driver offers more precise movement than conventional construction materials, for a smoother, more natural sound.

Optimal design
Incorporating the MRC into an aramid fiber matrix eliminates diaphragm resonance and minimizes distortion, not only in the low but also in the mid and higher frequencies. As a result, the sound is loud at all frequencies and unusually sharp, even at high volume.

Circumferential ring with split notches
The woofer's perimeter ring is another exclusive Sony technology, with distinctive curved grooves that improve vertical amplitude symmetry, for dramatically reduced distortion and improved clarity.

Five-spoke frame structure and dynamic air diffusion
The frame's five-spoke design dampens reverberation, while integrated dynamic air diffusion ensures efficient air circulation for smooth cone movement and voice coil cooling.

The acoustically optimized spider manages higher power and airflow, with a profile designed for faster and more precise contact with the speaker cone.

Tweeter for clear high notes
Compatible with high-resolution audio, the soft-dome tweeter diaphragm is attached directly to the voice coil and is designed to cover the very high frequencies of music, with a frequency range of up to 40 kHz.
